Peel Region teen charged after OPP cyber harassment investigation at Midland secondary school

A seven-month long investigation into the alleged cyber harassment of more than 21 students at a Midland secondary school has concluded with a teen being charged, Southern Georgian Bay OPP said in a press release.

In March 2022, numerous students at a local school became victims of harassment on a public social media platform.

Police said it resulted in “disruption of their school, social and home life.” School officials contacted OPP to report the incidents, which were investigated.

Police then launched into a lengthy cyber-based investigation to track down those involved in the alleged harassment.

As a result, a 16-year-old boy from Peel Region was identified and diverted to the Associated Youth Services of Peel in partnership with the Elizabeth Fry Society of Simcoe-Muskoka for the following offences: harassment, unauthorized use of a computer and defamation.
