CONGRESS VOWS TO EMPOWER FARMERS: MSP GUARANTEE CENTRAL TO MANIFESTO, SAYS AMARINDER SINGH RAJA WARRING

THERE SHOULD BE LEGAL ACCOUNTABILITY FOR POLITICAL PROMISES : AMARINDER SINGH RAJA WARRINGAMARINDER SINGH RAJA WARRING SLAMS BJP'S ECONOMIC RECORD: COST OF LIVING SOARS UNDER CURRENT REGIME

Chandigarh, 5th May 2024:  Amarinder Singh Raja Warring emphasized the urgent need for political promises to carry legal weight, advocating for accountability and integrity in governance. He stressed that these measures would alleviate the disappointment often experienced by citizens when promises go unfulfilled.

Reiterating that Congress manifesto is aimed at providing relief to various segments of society, he said, “Central to Congress’ manifesto is the assurance of Minimum Support Price (MSP) for farmers, along with exemptions of farm implements from GST and prompt compensation to farmers in times of natural disasters. During the Congress regime, we pledge to provide direct compensation to farmers within 30 days, along with establishing a commission for farmers' loan waivers. Additionally, the Mahalaxmi Yojana will ensure Rs 1 lakh per year unconditionally to poor women, stimulating the economy. To ensure guaranteed employment, the Apprenticeship Act, 1961, will be replaced by the Apprenticeship Rights Act, guaranteeing one year of training with a Rs 1 lakh stipend for diploma holders or college graduates under 25. This will enhance skills, boost employment, and create numerous job opportunities. Labour justice will be ensured by granting workers the right to health, a minimum wage of Rs 400 per day, and the introduction of Urban MNREGA, providing relief to the people of Punjab and fostering state progress.”

Amarinder Singh Raja Warring highlighted the alarming economic disparities under the BJP regime, pointing out the significant increases in cost of living, such as gold rates rising from Rs. 26,000 to Rs. 72,885 for 10 grams and petrol prices increasing from Rs. 62 to Rs. 100 per liter since 2014. He also emphasized the mounting debt burden, which escalated from Rs. 64,00,000 crore to Rs. 400,00,000 crore during the same period. Additionally, he noted the drastic price hikes in essentials like DAP fertilizer, LPG, and steel. He criticized the BJP government for failing to fulfill promises, highlighting that only Adani and Ambani's incomes doubled, not those of farmers as promised.

Furthermore, Amarinder Singh Raja Warring pointed out the historical significance of the MSP, introduced by the Congress party in 1967, contrasting it with the BJP government's preferential treatment towards industrialists. He highlighted the disparity where loans worth Rs. 16,00,000 crore were waived off for few rich friends of Prime minister Modi, while over 700 farmers lost their lives protesting for MSP, which would cost approximately Rs. 10,00,000 crore. The Government could earn by exporting produce of these farmers that could reduce the financial pressure on the government.

Highlighting the party's track record in empowering the marginalized, Amarinder Singh Raja Warring provided figures demonstrating the impact of schemes like the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), which has provided employment to millions of rural households, contributing significantly to poverty alleviation efforts. He also emphasized the success of other social welfare schemes aimed at uplifting the underprivileged segments of society.

Warring reaffirmed the Congress party's steadfast dedication to empowering farmers and ensuring inclusive socio-economic development. The unveiling of their manifesto marks a significant step towards a more equitable and prosperous future for all citizens of India.
